Kapuso darling Gabbi Garcia sparked a debate among netizens after she posted a query on why people bully celebrities on social media. She wrote on her Twitter account:
“Just a thought. Why do other people think that they could bash and verbally abuse celebrities on social media? Kasi public figure? Idk, but that mentality sucks.”
Entertainment site “Fashion Pulis” posted the screencap of Gabbi’s tweet, and it did seem like her take on this matter did not sit well with some netizens. Some netizens accused the actress as “feelingera” (full of herself), “pampam” (attention-seeking), and “GGSS” (gandang-ganda sa sarili or vain), while there are also commenters who explained that that’s the price to pay if one is a public figure.
One netizen wrote:
“Yeah it sucks. But it’s part of the package. You can’t realistically expect bashers to change just because you pointed something out. So even though it sucks, you have to suck it up if you still want to be a celebrity. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.”
An online user, however, sided with Gabbi’s opinion and defended her from the netizen’s comment.
“Pinagsasabi mo. Don’t justify what is wrong. 2018 na. Verbal abuse is abuse. You dont say to someone to suck it up.”
Many netizens also poured their support on Gabbi’s Twitter page. One even shared an insight and asked how these online haters sleep at night knowing that they hurt someone else’s feelings. Her response to Gabbi read:
“That’s what I’m thinking about. How the f they can easily bash and verbally abuse celebrities while those people are busy making other people happy?”
Another one said:
“Just a reminder for them: It’s okay to say their own opinions but don’t come to the point that you’ve been judging and bashing them. They don’t know, we don’t know how those celebs exerted efforts, sacrifices and hard work just to make their dream come true.”
